With a fixed budget and a hard, Board-driven project completion date, Mason health set out to build a medical office building adjacent to the General Hospital on their Shelton campus.
The project consolidated nine outpatient primary and specialty clinics as well as diagnostic imaging services into the new Mason Clinic. Approximately 200 SF of the lower floor and the upper floor of the existing hospital were remodeled to make the MOB corridor connections.
We provided electrical engineering and information and communication technology (ICT) systems design for this new two-story level IV medical office building housing 104 exam rooms and supporting services.
Unlike more traditional medical office buildings, the building was designed with a higher service-availability to accommodate a replacement 1,500-SF server room/data center. The new systems serve organizational level services and applications and supported the rollout of a new cloud-based electronic health record system to maximize staff access.
We were engaged early to work with the owner, design team, and general contractor to develop a scope of work to test against the owner’s tight budget. Several design options were provided and discussed as a team to assess how the design could maximize the owner’s program goals within the limited budget.
