Students at South Seattle College have been studying automotive programs for more than 50 years This project substantially renovates the existing 34,120 SF Automotive Technology Building and adds a new 11,470 SF, two-story addition infilling the existing service courtyard to expand functional spaces to serve this growing

The project required seismic strengthening of the structural system, particularly at the existing clerestory windows and roll-up doors. The entire facility was also brought into compliance with current codes and sustainability requirements. Aging mechanical and instructional equipment was replaced to alleviate health and safety concerns and maximize current real-world training needs while extending the life of the complex by 50 years.

Our designs included normal and emergency power systems, lighting, telecommunications and electronic security systems, and an 83kW rooftop photovoltaics system. Construction was completed in two phases, with half the building remaining occupied and operational throughout the duration of the project.
